Noah McKay has an interesting apologetic Argument From Beauty here. It’s an abductive argument, meaning it concludes with probability, not certainty. Here is his argument which he defends at length;
- Human beings are capable of having and do have profound aesthetic experiences in abundance.
- Naturalism does not adequately explain (1).
- Theism adequately explains (1).
- Therefore, all else being equal, theism is more probable than naturalism.
McKay does a credible job of presenting his argument and defending it against objections. It’s worth reading in entirety.
This is the best line from Noah McKay’s brilliant apologetic Argument from Beauty. 🙂 “Aesthetic appreciation and sexual attraction are clearly distinct: I think the Garden of the Gods is very beautiful, but I have never wanted to mate with a sandstone formation (presumably, nobody has).”
