There is an interesting article here entitled “Engineers For The Gospel.” It’s worth reading in entirety.
Engineers tend to make good apologists. They think logically, are practical and deal with certainty. They can self-teach new things. They know what they believe and why they believe it. They know that ideas have consequences. They know that knowledge is justified, true belief. They know how to think well. They can visualize. They know that nothing comes from nothing and that everything created necessarily has a creator. They know that everything created has a design goal (telos) and can derive that design goal from studying that which is created. They know that truth corresponds to reality and governs all of reality, and that truth is necessarily objective. They understand the law of noncontradiction and excluded middle. They can think abstractly. They know Bayes Theorem and Occam’s Razor. They understand that the intelligence and power of a creator is directly proportional to the complexity and potential power of the thing created. They understand that the Second Law of Thermodynamics necessitates a beginning to the Universe. They understand logical arguments. They grasp the power of converging and cumulative arguments. They differentiate between objective knowledge and personal values. They are able to harness creation for the good of mankind. They understand the power and role of reason. They know that not everything has the same degree of importance and can prioritize. They are able to bring faith alongside reason, creating powerful synergy. They understand that some things are transcendent and beyond human reason and comprehension (i.e., infinity). The more they learn, the more they grasp just how little they really know. They know that wisdom is not merely a vast accumulation of facts or an above-average IQ, but a practical knowledge gained from studying and experience. They understand what a proof is. They don’t exercise blind faith and understand the importance of evidence. They know there is an order to creation with mathematics being the language of the Universe.
For anyone seeking to ultimately be an effective apologist, getting a degree as an engineer and accumulating experience can be a good start.
