I have theological reasons for believing that intelligent life does not exist anywhere else in the Universe and that we are alone in the Universe as a very, very special creation. Professor David Kipping (David Kipping is a British-American astronomer and associate professor at Columbia University, known for his research on exoplanets and exomoons), a specialist in exo-planets (planets outside our solar system) sees no evidence that life exists elsewhere in the Universe. He presents his arguments here. While I don’t agree with everything he says, especially his position on abiogenesis (the supposed development of living organisms from nonliving matter) and evolution, he has a powerful argument.
There is a reason that NASA, SETI and others are frantically searching for extraterrestrial life – to verify their cherished theory of evolution. If evolution truly happened on Earth, then it surely must have happened elsewhere given the billions of stars and trillions of planets in our galaxy alone. But if there is no life elsewhere . . . and we are alone in the Universe . . . the implications are terrifying for naturalists.
In 2012, a reputable molecular biologist warned his compatriots to stop crying wolf on false alarms of finding evidence of extraterrestial life. (Interestingly, it seems that these claims surface every time NASA’s budget is under review, and then are inevitably quietly rescinded a few months later.)
We are truly very, very special (Genesis 1 & 2).
