Jesus was adamant regarding the certainty of the church. In Matt 16:18 he said the gates of Hell would not prevail against the church. On the other hand, history is replete that nations come and go – except perhaps for the nation of Israel which ceased to exist for some 2,000 years and then flashed back into existence in 1948.

Mark Dever makes a necessary and important distinction between the nation of America and the church . . . a distinction we would be wise to remember.
