The Gospel Coalition has an important video here warning about the dangers of digital technology and Artificial Intelligene (AI), explaining how Christians should think about digital technology. There are serious ethical concerns that the vast majority of people overlook and ignore. While this video is now two years old now, the problem is much worse today.

“It’s not how we are using the technology, but how technology is using us.”

In a more enlightening video here, a computer scientist warns that AI will simply make up something if it cannot discern the answer (earlier I posted here about a lawyer who submitted a legal brief generated with AI, that cited non-existent cases). In the same video, a pastor warns that AI is replacing critical thinking and discernment. Today we have access to more information than ever but increasingly lack discernment, a skill that is fundamentally critical for the productive use of AI. The productive use of AI also requires maturity and wisdom – two attributes that are tragically increasingly scarce in the church today, particularly among the young. I know some Christians who when asked a question that they do not know the answer to will always whip out their iphone and ask SIRI who has become their go-to for all knowledge.

AI can distort reality with incredibly powerful deception. The computer scientist in the video warns that the rise of ASI (Artificial Super Intellience) risks becoming the new Tower of Babel. AI is similar to nuclear technology in that misuse can be catastrophic.
