Seth Gruber has written a powerful, timely and necessary book entitled “The Last Stand: Christ or Chaos: The War for the West.” The church ignores Gruber’s warning at the risk of losing western civilization. While Christ said that Hell will not prevail against the church, he gave no such guarantee for civilizations – as history painfully records. The book is strongly recommended for the day and age in which we live.
“Why is now the time for our last stand? If every age has faced the same evils that are before us now, why is this moment a last stand moment? Because while the enemy and his schemes are not new, the silence and forgetfulness of the blood-bought bride of Christ is. Consider:
- 43% of aborting mothers attend church on a regular basis.
- 27% of millennial Christians describe themselves as LGBTQ.
- 55% of practicing Christians think pornography use can produce a sexually healthy life.
- 48% believe watching pornography can actually improve their sex life.
- Over half of practicing Christians regularly watch pornography.
- Only 40% of church attendees believe the Bible is “clear and decisive” on whether transgenderism is acceptable, compared to 52% in 2023.
- 47% of churchgoers believe Scripture is “clear and decisive” about whether homosexuality is morally permissible, a massive decline from the 63% in 2023.” (footnotes for the data provided in the book)
“The Barbarian hopes—and that is the mark of him, that he can have his cake and eat it too. He will consume what civilization has slowly produced after generations of selection and effort, but he will not be at pains to replace such goods, nor indeed has he a comprehension of the virtue that has brought them into being. Discipline seems to him irrational, on which account he is ever marveling that civilization, should have offended him with priests and soldiers…. In a word, the Barbarian is discoverable everywhere in this, that he cannot make: that he can befog and destroy but that he cannot sustain; and of every Barbarian in the decline or peril of every civilization exactly that has been true. We sit by and watch the barbarian. We tolerate him in the long stretches of peace, we are not afraid. We are tickled by his irreverence; his comic inversion of our old certitudes and our fixed creed refreshes us; we laugh. But as we laugh we are watched by large and awful faces from beyond, and on these faces there are no smiles. – Hilaire Belloc”
