Christian Apologetics

Defending Christianity as both true and rational

"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense [Greek is apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Pet 3:15)

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” CS Lewis

Libido Dominandi

Libido Dominandi is most closely translated as “lust for domination” or “lust for ruling.” Augustine wrote about it in his City of God.

Seth Gruber writes in his sobering book The Last Stand, “According to the historians Suetonius and Dio, Caligula established a brothel in the imperial palace staffed by children. Buying sex with children should outrage us but not surprise us anymore because “Eros plus power minus ethics [always] equals danger for the sexually vulnerable, especially … children.” Sexual orgies became everyday life at the court, only fueling accusations that Caligula had lost his mind. And yet, there was apparently a method to his madness. Caligula understood the power of what Augustine would later describe as “Libido Dominandi” . . . This is Libido Dominandi in action: promote vice to create addiction, then exploit addiction to secure domination.

As E. Michael Jones asserts, “Sexual liberation, by which I mean everything from pornography to abortion to gay marriage to transgenderism, is the most sophisticated form of social control in human history . . . [pornography’s] purpose is to turn you into a docile sex robot who can be controlled by the manipulation of your passions. No matter how crazy and counter-intuitive the claim that sexual liberation was a form of control sounded when I first made it, it has been proven true by the course of events, which showed, as St. Augustine said, “A man has as many masters as he has vices.””

The Roman Emperors from Caligula on understood that the more the populace was sexually exploited, the more easily they could be controlled. This is why the Roman Empire was notoriously hedonistic. Similarly, the ulimate aim of the contemporary sexual revolution in America is to dismantle the Judeo-Christian culture and thereby pacify people for domination. A real-world example is the domination of a pimp over a prostitute by sexually exploiting her. So powerful is the domination that police and social workers often have great difficulty in convincing prostitutes to leave their pimp, no matter brutal the pimp is and how much help is offered.

The sexual revolution in America began in the 60’s with “free love.” Soon, sodomy laws were taken off the books and homosexuality was no longer illegal. Pornography exploded and with gay marriage being legalized and transgenderism proliferating. Children are incrasingly targeted and it is probably just a matter of time before pedophilia becomes legal with “consenting childen.”

As our culture becomes hypersexualized, it is increasingly ripe for domination. Only the power of the gospel can thwart what is coming. A recommended resource is Libido Dominandi: Sexual Liberation and Political Control 2nd Ed. Hardback by E. Michael Jones, PhD. “Unlike the standard version of sexual revolution, Libido Dominandi shows how sexual liberation was from its inception a form of control. The logic is clean enough: Those who wished to liberate man from the moral order needed to impose social controls as soon as they succeeded because liberated libido led inevitably to anarchy.”
