Christian Apologetics

Defending Christianity as both true and rational

"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense [Greek is apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Pet 3:15)

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” CS Lewis

Newer Is Not Always Better

Newer is not always better. [It’s why I snapped up the last ICE (internal combustion engine) Macan S my local Porsche dealer offered after Porsche drank the EV kool-aid and switched all Macans to EV. Porsche now admits they made a huge mistake.] Apparently the Second Law of Thermodynamics also…

Newer is not always better. [It’s why I snapped up the last ICE (internal combustion engine) Macan S my local Porsche dealer offered after Porsche drank the EV kool-aid and switched all Macans to EV. Porsche now admits they made a huge mistake.] Apparently the Second Law of Thermodynamics also sometimes applies to product innovation.

Another example is the Bose 500 Smart Speaker which Bose no longer makes. We have two of them, one in the media room and one in our bedroom. The speaker is so good that when Bose stopped making it in 2024, I found one of the last ones, brand new one, still-in-the-box, and purchased it as a backup. GearLab rated it as the best single stand-alone wireless speaker. And why did Bose discontinue the 500 Smart Speaker? ElectronicHub explains why – “The Bose Smart Speaker 500 (formerly Home Speaker 500) has officially shifted from a flagship retail product to a discontinued legacy model as of 2024; while it remains highly regarded for its stereo separation and unique LCD display for album art, the market has pivoted toward portable, battery-powered alternatives.”

But it’s not just product innovation. Tragically . . . and far, far worse . . . many foolishly buy into new philosophies and ideologies, naively believing they must be better than “old, outdated” worldviews. Eddie Garcia expounds here on why this is such a dangerous and fatal perspective.

“Why have so many people jumped on so many bandwagons contributing to the upending of human interpersonal relationships and dialogue, relatively overnight? With something, which has been such an essential ingredient in establishing the basis of human society, why have so many been so readily accepting of every new idea put forth by ivy-league academia and promoted by organizations and corporations with their own agenda? . . . Biblical scripture has provided a blueprint of sorts, on how to conduct ourselves, how to raise our families, how to communicate with our neighbors and develop a functioning civilization that benefits all people under the ideas of love, compassion, adherence to a higher authority, personal responsibility, delayed gratification, discipline, charity and treating others as being made in the image of our creator.

We must not be so quick to renounce a way of life that has sustained a model for societal growth for approximately 4000 years . . . We should not easily abandon our biblically-inspired culture concerning the ideas of objective truth, the sovereign individual, the sanctity of life and the importance of marriage, simply because newer versions are promulgated by individuals with titles in their signature block, most of which have limited experience of life from within the confines of Ivy League classrooms and elite circles.“
