Christian Apologetics

Defending Christianity as both true and rational

"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense [Greek is apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Pet 3:15)

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” CS Lewis

Warnings from the Tytler Cycle

Christ’s warning in Luke 11:17 that a divided kingdom will be laid waste, is a sobering warning for the United States. As we fracture into ever increasing partitions, it is just a matter of time before we are “laid waste.” The so-called “Tytler Cycle‘ which is a theory describing the…

Christ’s warning in Luke 11:17 that a divided kingdom will be laid waste, is a sobering warning for the United States. As we fracture into ever increasing partitions, it is just a matter of time before we are “laid waste.”

The so-called “Tytler Cycle‘ which is a theory describing the typical lifecycle of democracies and civilizations, is instructive. A central assertion of the Tytler narrative is that: “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government… The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years.”

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government… The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years.”

“The cycle outlines how societies progress through stages, typically leading from liberty and prosperity back to bondage and collapse. The most frequently cited version includes these stages:

  1. Bondage → Spiritual Faith
  2. Spiritual Faith → Great Courage
  3. Courage → Liberty
  4. Liberty → Abundance
  5. Abundance → Selfishness
  6. Selfishness → Complacency
  7. Complacency → Apathy
  8. Apathy → Dependence
  9. Dependence → Back into Bondage

The theory suggests that once a society reaches abundance, voters begin to realize they can vote themselves benefits from the public treasury. This leads to fiscal irresponsibility, moral decline, and eventual collapse into dictatorship or bondage.“

Words we ignore at our peril. As someone commented online in reflecting upon the trial for a DUI driver that killed somone – “I don’t like the decline I see going on in our country. I love America very much but I’m glad I’m 67 and will only have to watch our great country decline for another 20 years or so before I die.” I echo his sentiment.
