There is a remarkable video here recounting with AI the history of Nineveh, capital of the Assyrian Empire. While God withheld judgment on Nineveh because of their repentance during the time of Jonah, history records the city was destroyed 150 years later as the city, the capital of the fearsome Assyrian Empire, finally reached the point-of-no-return. Nineveh was an ancient Assyrian city located in modern-day Mosul, Iraq. It was one of the largest cities in the world until its fall in 612 BC. Many of the rulers presented in this video are recounted in the Old Testament. It was the Assyrians that took the northern ten tribes of Israel into captivity in 722 BC.
As Biblehub recounts here,
“The Assyrian Empire, under the reign of King Tiglath-Pileser III, began its incursions into the northern kingdom around 740 BC. The final blow came during the reign of King Hoshea, the last king of Israel. In 722 BC, the Assyrian king Shalmaneser V laid siege to Samaria, the capital of the northern kingdom. The siege lasted for three years, culminating in the capture of the city by Sargon II, Shalmaneser’s successor.
The biblical account in 2 Kings 17:6 states: “In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River, and in the cities of the Medes.”“
The Fall of Nineveh occurred in 612 BC. After the Assyrian defeat at the Fall of Assur, an allied army which involved the combined forces of Medes and the Babylonians besieged Nineveh and took what was, at that time, the greatest city in the world, with the Medes playing a major part in the city’s downfall. Read here about the historical fall of Nineveh as predicted by the prophet Nahum in the Old Testament. The destruction of Nineveh serves as a sobering warning to America what can happen to a nation who flaunts their wealth and power and descends into gross immorality, “inventing new ways of doing evil” [Rom 1:30].

Here is the description accompanying the video . . .
“Two and a half thousand years ago, a city stood on the banks of the Tigris River that was unlike anything the world had ever seen. Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Empire, was home to 100,000 people at a time when most cities held fewer than 10,000. Its walls stretched twelve kilometres. Its palace contained nearly three kilometres of carved stone reliefs. It held the world’s first organised library, and within that library, the oldest work of literature ever written.
Then, in 612 BC, it was gone. Burned. Buried. Erased so completely that two centuries later, a Greek army marched directly past its ruins without knowing what they were walking over. In this video, we rebuild Nineveh from the ground up using advanced AI reconstruction techniques applied to ancient stone engravings, cuneiform inscriptions, and centuries of archaeological research, to show you what this city actually looked like at its height. What you are about to see is not fantasy. It is the most accurate picture history can give us of a city that, frankly, should not have been possible.
We cover the full 8,000 year history of the site, from the earliest Neolithic settlements on the eastern bank of the Tigris, through the rise of the Assyrian Empire under kings like Ashurnasirpal II, Sargon II, and Sennacherib, to the construction of the Palace Without Rival, the founding of the world’s first library by Ashurbanipal, and the catastrophic fall of 612 BC at the hands of a Babylonian-Median coalition that made absolutely sure Nineveh would never rise again.
We also cover what happened after: the 2,000 years of silence, the rediscovery by British archaeologist Austen Henry Layard in 1847, the translation of the Epic of Gilgamesh by George Smith in 1872, and the second destruction of Nineveh’s heritage by the Islamic State in 2014. This is the story of the most powerful city in the ancient world.“
