John Lennox, professor of mathmatics at Oxford University, has a video here wherein he expresses concern over the development of General Artificial Intelligence (AGI). General artificial intelligence (AGI) refers to a type of AI that can understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks, similar to human cognitive abilities. Unlike narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks, AGI can generalize knowledge and solve new problems without needing to be reprogrammed. Not holding back, Lennox explicitly declares that the goal of AGI is in fact building a god that some are already worshipping. One AI expert agrees and declares that AGI is a quasi-religious endeavor.

He mentions Yuval Noah Harari, an Israeli intellectual whom I also quote in my book, who foolishly believes that medical advancement will ultimately defeat death. Lennox warns we are “sleepwalking into the future” and that technology advances much faster than the ethics needed to underpin the technology. Without an ethical foundation, technology will become the ultimate source of truth for a world spiralling out of control.

In John 17:17, Jesus declared that God’s word (Scripture) is truth. Note that He did not say it is merely “true” (adjective), but “truth” (noun). Scripture is where the definition of truth ultimately resides. Scripture defines truth itself. Scripture judges all truth, incuding any that is generated by AGI. While of course truth can be discerned elsewhere (i.e., mathematics, physics, music, medical, etc.) Scripure is the final arbiter of truth. When technology becomes the final arbiter of truth, we have cut loose from the anchor of sanity and are down the rabbit hole into wonderland.
