Christian Apologetics

Defending Christianity as both true and rational

"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense [Greek is apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Pet 3:15)

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” CS Lewis

A.S. Ibrahim (with two PhDs in Islamic studies) writes here on the current trouble in France.

“Before we rush to side with the critics or the supporters, we should ask the question beneath the controversy, the one almost no one in public life will ask: Does Islam, in its original texts, really care about coexistence? Or is it more about surpassing and replacing the systems it finds? . . . Muhammad’s life shows how seriously these words were taken. When he settled in Medina, three major Jewish tribes lived there. Within six years, all had been besieged, expelled, or massacred. Some were besieged and expelled after he accused them of plotting against him; others fared worse, as their men were put to death and their women and children enslaved. Muslim sources justify each episode by accusing the Jewish tribes of disloyalty or hypocrisy. Yet whatever one makes of the charges, the result was the same each time: A Jewish presence that did not accept his “prophetic” message and his authority was removed from the land. After Muhammad’s death, his commanders and caliphs carried the pattern far beyond Arabia. Within a few decades, armies had taken Syria, Palestine, Egypt, and Iraq, then pushed west across North Africa, ancient Christian lands that had been home to Augustine and Athanasius. The conquered Christians and Jews were declared subjects of Muslim rule. . . . . Trump’s post, however blunt, points at something Europeans have lived with for decades—migration policies that welcomed large populations from Muslim-majority countries without a serious plan for integration. The results are visible in parallel societies, in neighborhoods where the state’s presence is thin and French norms are contested, in cultural friction over schools, dress, and speech, and in recurring unrest.“
